Came across Lawrence Lessig's presentation at OSCON 2002 entitled "Free Culture". The core points of his presentation are that:
* Creativity and innovation always builds on the past.
* The past always tries to control the creativity that builds upon it.
* Free societies enable the future by limiting this power of the past.
* Ours is less and less a free society.
He sites several interesting examples to reinforce the above points and urges to do something about the situation.
The presentation is also interesting because each of the slides simply contains text in a White Typewriter font on top of a Black background.
